Atlas by Drono is a fully autonomous UAV that encompasses obstacle avoidance, breath sensors, computer vision and machine learning for search and rescue duties as well as security and persistent overwatch. Atlas combines ultra-wide band radar technology with Drono’s world-class computer vision for detection of collapsed buildings and any humans that may be trapped in them.
Atlas also takes security to the next level, being able to patrol large areas and combines breath detection and advanced biometrics to detect and identify intruders.
During the conceptual phase of this project, it was decided that the look of the drone should include a unidirectional profile as opposed to an omnidirectional one as to clearly define a front and back. It was also necessary to build into the body profile a high center to allow the LIDAR to function without obstruction by any other parts of the body itself or blades from the motors. Many profiles were explored through perspective and orthographic sketches as well as quick sculpts in ZBrush and Modo.
